BPACE Core Values

This year we will be working on a strategic plan for BPACE. This will be an opportunity for us to reexamine our mission, vision and core values statements.
Please read the current (more or less) BPACE Core Values below and comment. What do we need to add, change or delete?

WE BELIEVE that our first responsibility is to our clients; we must act in their best interests in terms of their educational and individual well-being.

WE BELIEVE in addressing diverse, individual needs by providing client-centered programs and services.

WE BELIEVE it is our responsibility to make programs and services as accessible as possible to all clients.

WE BELIEVE that diversity in staff and clients strengthens and enhances the organization. This diversity includes, but is not limited to: ethnicity, race, gender, age and disabilities.

WE BELIEVE in flexibility and innovation in meeting the needs of the community in a changing and complex society.

WE BELIEVE in conducting our business with honesty and integrity.

WE BELIEVE in providing a dedicated, well-trained, effective staff.

WE BELIEVE that every client is capable of learning and should be provided with opportunities to set and achieve realistic, meaningful goals.

WE BELIEVE in encouraging and empowering employees and clients to attain their personal and professional goals by identifying their potential and building on their successes.

WE BELIEVE in treating our employees and clients with respect, recognizing that they are a valuable and essential part of a team.

WE BELIEVE in, and are committed to, life-long learning.

WE BELIEVE in quality management through effective communication and teamwork.

WE BELIEVE in providing a clean, orderly, safe environment and atmosphere conducive to working and learning.

Overall represents our core values and beliefs.
Consider changing “client” to “student” to more accurately identify who we serve.
Consider adding…we believe in promoting a collegiate approach/atmosphere by providing relevant student services and post secondary transitions.

1. WE BELIEVE that our first responsibility is to our clients; we must act in their best interests in terms of their educational and individual well-being.
a. As a school we interface with vendors, public and private businesses, other schools and government agencies etc. A client is too nebulous and does not fit with all the other core values. Let’s define clients as students, or people that access (partake) in our educational services. Or we can interchange clients with other terms including employees, vendors, staff, etc.
2. WE BELIEVE in addressing diverse, individual needs by providing client-centered programs and services.
a. Client centered programs needs to be defined in an educational context.
3. WE BELIEVE it is our responsibility to make (all) programs and services as accessible as possible to all clients.
a. “to make (ALL)programs and services as accessible as possible” needs to include ALL programs. As it stands now, Career Technical Education programs are only accessible to PELL students and all others can pay the same price at community colleges. Clients fall under programs that are funded and/or authorized.
4. WE BELIEVE that diversity in staff and clients strengthens and enhances the organization. This diversity includes, but is not limited to: ethnicity, race, gender, age and disabilities.
a. Do we actively take steps to make this a reality? I think times dictate that this should go without saying. Delete.
5. WE BELIEVE in flexibility and innovation in meeting the (educational) needs of the community in a changing and complex society.
6. WE BELIEVE in conducting our business with honesty and integrity.
a. Delete. Why would we do it differently?
7. WE BELIEVE in providing a dedicated, well-trained, effective staff.
a. Well trained can be measured and verified, including the efforts. Dedicated and effective is something that BPACE can accommodate more than provide.
8. WE BELIEVE that every (student) client is capable of learning and should be provided with opportunities to set and achieve realistic, meaningful goals.
9. WE BELIEVE in encouraging and empowering employees and clients to attain their personal and professional goals by identifying their potential and building on their successes.
a. This sort of clarifies # 7 above.
10. WE BELIEVE in treating our employees and clients with respect, recognizing that they are a valuable and essential part of a team.
a. This is the first time we used “Team.” What makes this concept worthy of respect and having essential qualities? Maybe we believe that working as a team we can help to attain these qualities as a staff and as students.
11. WE BELIEVE in, and are committed to, life-long learning.
12. WE BELIEVE in quality management through effective communication and teamwork.
a. I can truthfully say that communication is lacking. We have not had an all hands meeting in a while and when an issue on adult education is brought up, it is via a forwarded email without any input or opinions. Also, does this teamwork include teachers and classified staff? When we have to have teams , we do, and we are effective. This should be ongoing or deleted.
13. WE BELIEVE in providing a clean, orderly, safe environment and atmosphere conducive to working and learning.

I do not see any changes needed and think these core values are what we believe in and try to accomplish each day
